Femoral hernia.

چکیده
About 20 years ago one of us was so impressed by seeing a number of direct inguinal herniae following the Lotheissen (I898) repair of a femoral hernia that he decided to try the low or Lockwood type of repair. The low operation has been used almost exclusively since that time in over 500 cases. At that time and probably at the present time the Lotheissen operation is the most popular, because it is considered to give better access to ,the neck of the sac, easier resection of gut should this be necessary, increased safety of a possible aberrant obturator artery if Gimbernat's ligament is divided in the presence of strangulation and finally it was considered that suture of the conjoint tendon to Cooper's ligament should produce fewer recurrences than suturing Poupart's ligament to the pectineal fascia. In spite of these apparent very weighty arguments we believe the inguinal canal should only be opened if there is an associated inguinal hernia because the transversalis fascia has to be incised in order to expose the femoral sac from the inguinal canal.

Background: Laparoscopic hernioplasty is a standard technique with increasing interest of patients and surgeons. Bilateral hernioplasty can be performed by laparoscopy as well. The aim of this study is to show laparoscopic bilateral hernioplasty is an acceptable method and use of eye-shaped mesh getting the best result. Methods: In 54 cases with bilateral inguinal hernia, under general anest...

Surgical treatment of femoral hernia has a long history. In the 19th century Bassini and Marcy are simply closing the femoral ring, while Cushing published approach for solving the femoral hernia. However, a high percentage of relapse with conventional techniques, require a different approach in dealing with femoral hernia. It is assumed that the femoral hernia occurs in 7% of all abdominal wal...
متن کاملAppendiceal pus in a hernia sac simulating strangulated femoral hernia: a case report
Acute appendicitis involving the hernia sac is infrequent but well-documented in medical literature. In most instances, it occurs within the right inguinal (Amyand's hernia) or right femoral hernia (de Garengeot hernia). The diagnosis is always mistaken for incarcerated groin hernia. During surgery, the appendix itself, either perforated or strangulated, is most commonly encountered within the ...
متن کاملUnusual Contents of the Femoral Hernia
Different contents in the femoral hernia have been reported in the literature, but herniation of the fallopian tube in a femoral hernia is very rare due to its normal anatomical position. Case Presentation. A female patient was admitted to the surgical ward for a lump in the right groin. Clinical examination confirmed a right femoral hernia. The patient underwent surgery to repair the hernia. I...
متن کاملFemoral Hernia: A Review of the Clinical Anatomy and Surgical Treatment
Purpose: Femoral hernia is a kind of ventral hernia that surgeons commonly encounter, second in frequency only to inguinal hernia. Femoral hernias often require emergency surgery because of incarceration or strangulation of the intestine. In addition, intestinal resection may need to be considered based on intestinal viability. Definitive preoperative diagnosis and strategic planning for surger...
متن کاملStrangulated Femoral Hernia: A Challenging Surgical Vignette
External hernia is one of the commonest causes of intestinal obstruction. Femoral hernia is a relatively uncommon hernia. It has a very high complication rate due to delayed diagnosis caused by deceptive symptomatology and subtle signs. CT scan enables a prompt diagnosis. Rigorous resuscitation followed by prompt surgical intervention is the mainstay of treatment. A case of a strangulated femor...
